LUNG CANCER
According to data from the Bulgarian National Cancer Registry, lung cancer is represented by 19.6% among men and 4% among women of all cancers. The number of newly registered cases is 3,572, and the total number of registered patients in the country is 9,080. Smoking is a leading risk factor. About 85% of lung cancer patients are smokers.
Small cell and squamous cell carcinomas are closely related to smoking and are the carcinomas that occur in heavy smokers, while adenocarcinomas occur more frequently in nonsmokers. It affects people between the ages of 55 and 75. For the last 20 years, in our country there has been a permanent trend towards an increase in the number of lung cancer cases and a decrease in the age of the patients.
Lung cancer is the most common cause of oncological mortality among the Bulgarian population - almost twice as much as the next leading oncological disease - stomach cancer. Smoking is the leading risk factor for lung cancer, with smokers being affected 5 to 8 times more often than non-smokers. Other known risk factors are polluted air, work with heavy chemical pollution, and frequently observed chronic inflammatory processes such as COPD, influenza, bronchitis, tracheitis, angina, and pneumonia.
The treatment of lung carcinoma in most cases is complex. The standard treatment of lung cancer includes the four main methods: surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and immunotherapy, and the choice depends on the type of tumor and the stage of the disease. Recently, there has been remarkable and rapid progress in the field of immunotherapy.
A cancer diagnosis indicates a deficiency in the body's immune system's ability to detect and eliminate cancer cells. Tumors are able to hide their antigens from normal cells and thus avoid recognition and destruction by the immune system. Another way for tumor cells to evade the immune system is to "steal" proteins from the surface of normal cells and "mask" themselves to the immune system as "their" and not "foreign" cells.
Immunotherapy is a process that can reverse a malignant transformation of cells to a normal (without transformation) division process. The first immunotherapeutic preparation known to science is the BCG vaccine. Currently, modern lung cancer treatment uses various inhibitors such as PDL and PDL1 inhibitors under different names.

For the first time the BCG vaccine was used to treat lung cancer by Prof. Spartak Hadjiev - Bulgaria and Prof. B. Alpern- Institut Passeur Paris.
In the last more than 50 years, Prof. Spartak Hadjiev's team continues to work on the doses, content and administration schemes of the various preparations containing BCG, such as HD88, H96 and Catraps.
The drug has been administered to more than 1,000 patients with lung cancer. As an example, we apply our last survey from the month of February 2022. And summary data shows that 37.5% of patients survive more than 5-25 years from the beginning of their treatment with Catraps.
Here we will talk a little about the theory of Prof. Nasya Hadzhieva and her team about the origin of cancer. This theory is based on viruses and bacteria that for many years cause inflammatory processes in the lungs, and so the microbes gradually erase the changes in the tissues of the inflamed organs, which become invisible to the body and it does not destroy them by apoptosis, as it does with unnecessary and altered cells.
Until now, it has been proven that more than 40% of cancers are caused by various bacteria and viruses, and we expect to confirm our current knowledge of the virus-bacterial theory of the origin of cancer and to find new evidence for the microbial origin of all or most cancers.
